Happy Birthday Harry Potter!

'Twas Harry Potter's birthday yesterday, and to celebrate, my friends and I made this wonderfully authentic Harry Potter cake and watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in our long line of the HP marathon. It was really great, my friends are pretty much the coolest in the world. We've been watching the HP series for a couple weeks now and I think we are doing a pretty bang up job on it. Notice on the cake we attempted to spell "Hapee" how Hagrid spelled it. There might have been 2 P's. Oh well. Now everybody out there, go watch yourself some Harry Potter and love it!

Lumberjack Party

So....as a college student, I usually hear about toga parties. However, I went to a Lumberjack party and I'm pretty sure that it was better than any toga party. Woo hoo! Flannel, facial hair, waffles, pancakes, and don't forget, BACON. That's right, real legit bacon. Manna from Heaven. So...uh..yeah, if you're ever thinking about having a themed party, try lumberjack and put on some good tunes and set up a photo area and boom, you've got one heck of a party!

Knives and Chili

Knives....are dangerous. While making delicious Chili, I was learning how to properly dice an onion. My roommate Courtnie was teaching me, she is in the culinary program at UVU and she was letting me use her special knife. Apparently, I shouldn't cut stuff, cause I slipped and cut my finger!!! ACK!! It hurt so bad, and it was bleeding like crazy, but it stopped...eventually. But the Chili turned out great! Here's the recipe for you courtesy of UVU's "The Zone"
Four Bean Chili
1/2lb. hamburger (extra lean)
1 onion, chopped
1 can green Lima beans, un-drained
2 cans kidney beans, un-drained
1 can butter beans, un-drainged
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
Brown the  hamburger and onion together on the stove top. Stir together all ingredients and simmer on the stove top for 20-30 minutes. Enjoy!!

Sociology

So...in my sociology class...it is pretty crazy. To start off Sociology is the systematic study of human society. And with this comes Sociological perspective, aka seeing the general in the particular. Now, this is really crazy! You see the strange in the familiar. Think of this, say, you're single and you're looking for a spouse. Ok, so you have the 'ideal' spouse in mind, but really how individual is that? You would love to think that it is based solely on how you feel about someone and all but, look at the social patterns around you. Who you marry is also very much influence by the society around you! Think about it, really hard. You probably have a list, like they make in Young Women's and such. How many of those things are pretty much the same on every list? Is that because the society you grew up in told you that those were the ideal things to have in a spouse or is it a result of your personal feelings or both? I know, weird, right?  There are all sorts of social patterns such as this. Just open your eyes, really look, and you will you see them. Where did you get your ideas on how criminals look? Society. How about what you think about girls you see on the street with short shorts? You probably think oh, dear, she's a bad person. But really, she could be a very good person, where did you get that idea? Society. Society as a whole influences about what we think about people, stereotypes and such. So my question for you, dear readers, is this: What ideas and/or actions do you have/take that are directly influenced by Society? Your personal society? Society as a Nation? So on and so forth.

Week 1

Well, I made it through week 1, what with all the excruciating workouts; mentally and physically. Okay, not really but it was a toughie.  We hit the track workouts pretty hard this first week back and did stuff that made my  body say "ow!" everyday. That would include sprinting, heavy lifting, plyometrics, and other such exercises. But it is all good, I will just be a better javelin thrower. Anyway my class line up is as follows:
M,W,F:
Music 1010 - 11am -Ferguson
Sociology - 1pm - Davis
T,Th:
Ceramics - 8am- Talbert
Health - 12pm - Amadio
German - 6:30pm - Schultheiss
I have a pretty good line up. Until the next time my pleasant viewers, and yes, I think this blog will be getting more exciting.

Back to the Grind

So...life continues here in Orem. I got back yesterday evening and then proceeded to go back to my Gollum-like habits and hole up in my room and be anti-social for most of the night. Today, I went to church and performed my duties...and might I add, splendidly. If you didn't know, I play the organ for sacrament meeting because nobody else wants to and because not many people can. Dunno why, all piano players should be able to play the organ for it is practically the same thing. Tomorrow will prove to be interesting. I am starting a new semester at UVU. My list of classes are as follows: M, W, F: Intro to Music 11am and Sociology 1pm. T,TH: Ceramics 8am, Personal Health and Wellness 12pm, and Beginning German II 6:30pm. Intermingled in all of that would be Track practice from 2:30-5ish. I expect it to kick my butt very much tomorrow. I will be sore for a few days. Or so I should think. If you've read all of this, I congratulate you on being very astute in keeping up with me. Cheers.

Brand New Year

Recently, I have been into everything Sherlock or otherwise detective things. I love that everything can be assumed by the tiniest of details. I am currently watching the BBC Sherlock and Warner Bros. Sherlock Holmes quite often and have started reading what started it all. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, the Complete Volume 1, thanks to my wonderful sister, Meghan. Cheers, and happy new year!
